Gone to Seed - an effortless Dolman tee knitting pattern

Gone to Seed evokes ears of wheat, cornsilk, late-season Atlantic tides when the water finally warms, and the way sand cools first in the purpling shadows of summer’s fading warmth. A simple ribbed trim and garter stitch button band compliment lace shoulder panels for a breezy summer garment.

The Gone to Seed tee is a Dolman button-down with a plunging v-neck and lace saddle shoulders. An effortless summer style in an ultra-wearable silhouette, this fit-focused design is a celebration of the yarns we turn to as the seasons turn. Beginning with the lace panels, the garment is then knit from the top down for the front and back before stitches are picked up for the trim, sleeves, and hem.

Construction

Gone to Seed is a Dolman button-down with a plunging v-neck and lace saddle shoulders. The tee is graded to fit full busts 28-72”. Knitters will begin with two lace panels for the shoulders, which are joined by a back neck panel. Stitches are picked up and worked from the top down for the fronts and backs. Stitches are picked up and ribbed trim is worked for the sleeves and hem. Stitches are picked up and worked in garter stitch for the neckline and button band.

Your best fit

Choose the size closest to your actual upper chest measurement: 28 (32.75, 36, 39.25, 42.5) (45.75, 49, 52.25) (55.5, 58.75, 62, 65.25) inches / 70 (82, 90, 98, 106.5) (114.5, 122.5, 130.50 (139, 147, 155, 163) cm.

Upper chest is measured above the full bust, at an angle close to diagonal beneath the underarms, and straight across the back.

Gone to Seed is designed to fit with approximately 10 inches / 25 cm of positive ease at the fullest part of your bust.

If you need additional room for the bust, working the optional short row shaping will give you the best fit in the shoulders and armholes, while still making room for your chest. Short rows add length to the front only of the garment, so that the hem does not rise in the front.

Jen is wearing size 5, Cup 1, with 10 inches / 25 cm of positive ease at the full bust. Her upper chest is 41 inches / 102.5 cm
