Postscript - an elegant shawl collar cardigan knitting pattern

Postscript invites you to write a love letter to a stranger and press it between the pages, paper-thin as dried violet petals, of the oldest work in your antique bookshop. Soft, feminine, deliberate and just a little mysterious, Postscript is all about juxtaposition and contrast.

This elegant cardigan features a towering shawl collar and a graceful set-in sleeve. Shaping creates more room at the hip, giving you space right where you need it. A wide button band and large, simple, buttons adorn this cardigan, partnering perfectly with richly textured granite stitch. Postscript is worked from the bottom-up in pieces and seamed with set-in sleeves. Stitches are picked up and knit for the shawl collar and button band.

Construction

Postscript is worked bottom-up in pieces and seamed with set-in sleeves. Stitches are picked up and knit for the shawl collar and button band. The hip is wider than the bust.

Optional Bust Shaping

Optional instructions for adding short rows for bust shaping, in five sizes, give you your best fit.

Your best fit

Choose the size closest to your actual upper chest measurement: 28 (32, 36, 39.25, 42.5) (45.75, 49, 52.25) (55.5, 58.75, 62, 65.25) inches / 70 (80, 89.5, 98, 106) (114, 122, 130.5) (138.5, 146.5, 154.5, 163) cm

Upper chest is measured above the full bust, at an angle close to diagonal beneath the underarms, and straight across the back.

Postscript is designed to fit with approximately 3.5 inches / 9 cm of positive ease at the fullest part of your bust.

If you need additional room for the bust, as Jen does, working the optional short row shaping will give you the best fit in the shoulders and armholes, while still making room for your chest. Short rows add length to the front only of the garment, so that the hem does not rise in the front.

Jen is wearing in size 5, Cup 1, with 3.5 inches / 9 cm positive ease at the full bust. Her upper chest is 41 inches / 102.5 cm.
